THE WARRIOR: JOAN OF ARC
Although Joan of Arc lived a very short life, it was a remarkable one. From the age of 13, she claimed to hear voices and see visions that told her to rise up and fight for France’s liberation. In the 15th century, this was a very dangerous thing to claim, but driven by this divine calling she faced her fear, showed her authentic self and accepted her difference as a blessing.
Her courage to stand alone and accept what she felt she was born to do, is what inspired me to include her in The Extraordinary Women IV: The Great Pretenders collection.

The Visionary Amulet

She wore a full suit of armor in battle but also while in prison and on trial for
heresy. I was moved by the descriptions of her battle dress and inspired to design things for her that would help her embrace who she was and support her confidence in battle.
Gemstones cut into spikes imply a warning,‘I am formidable and competent.’ This is the jewelry she would have worn.
She was a soldier so she dressed like a soldier. She knew then, what we know now...that the things we wear help us identify with our true power even if inside we feel vulnerable and unsure.
